Traditional Chinese Medicine Science and Technology Industrial Park of Cooperation between Guangdong and Macau Succeeded with Registration of Two Chinese Traditional Patent Medicines in Mozambique

In September 2017, the Traditional Chinese Medicine Science and Technology Industrial Park of Cooperation between Guangdong and Macau (hereinafter referred to as the “Industrial Park”) assisted two TCM companies with their registration successfully in Mozambique, one of which being a TCM pharmaceutical factory based in Macao, and by doing so is helping TCM enterprises in Macao “go global” and taking every development opportunity under the “Belt and Road” initiative to expand their business in overseas markets.

According to the cooperation agreement between the Industrial Park and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Mozambique, the Industrial Park has held several professional training sessions on TCM techniques for doctors and physiotherapists from local public hospitals since 2015, establishing a promotion model for TCM products and culture with the strategy of “promotion of medicine through medical service”. Given the market demand, especially demand for the efficacy and safety of products, two TCM products -- Lianhua Qingwen Capsule and Cheong Kun Pain-Reliever Oil which has been on Macao’s market for more than 30 years and has acknowledged good clinical basis -- were selected through a rigorous process and registered as pilot products. During the registration process, the Industrial Park has encountered and overcome various difficulties, such as legal differences, adjustments to technical solutions in accordance with different registration requirements and standardization of technical documents.

It is believed that the Industrial Park’s success with the registration this time, to some extent, would serve as an exemplary role to facilitate future overseas registration and expansion for more qualified and premium TCM products, as well as lay the groundwork for the Industrial Park as the Public Service Platform for Overseas Registration of Traditional Chinese Medicine granted by the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
