Traditional Chinese Medicine Science and Technology Industrial Park

Organized jointly by Guangdong-Macao Traditional Chinese Medicine Technology Industrial Park Development Co., Ltd. and Instituto de Medicina Tradicional (IMT), of Portugal, Traditional Medicine International Co-operation Forum 2015 was successfully held in Macao on June 30. The event attracted over 150 traditional medicine experts and representatives of famous traditional medicine enterprises, from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Portugal, Brazil, Angola and Mozambique.

The opening ceremony included the unveiling ceremony of the Centre of International Co-operation and Exchange Platform (hereinafter referred to as "CICEP") of the Traditional Chinese Medicine Science and Technology Industrial of Co-operation between Guangdong and Macao (hereinafter referred to as “Industrial Park”) and the signing ceremony of cooperation MOU's with two strategic partners and a corporate partner respectively. The officiating guests included:  Secretary for Economy and Finance of Macao SAR Government, Mr. Lionel Leong Vai Tac; Secretary-General of the People´s Central Government Liaison Office in Macao SAR Mr. Wang Xindong; Deputy Commissioner of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Macao SAR, Mr. Pan Yundong; Director-General of the Department of International Co-operation and cumulatively Director of the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Dr. Wang Xiaoping; Standing Committee Member of Zhuhai Municipality and cumulatively Party Secretary of Hengqin New Area, Ms. Liu Jia; and Consultant to the Office of the Secretary for Economy and Finance of Macao SAR Government and President of Guangdong-Macao Traditional Chinese Medicine Technology Industrial Park Development Co., Ltd., Ms. Lu Hong. The above-mentioned officiating guests, together with the representative of the Permanent Secretariat to the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries: Deputy Secretary General of the Permanent Secretariat to the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries and cumulatively Coordinator of the Forum's Support Office, Ms. Echo Chan, the President of Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM), Mr. Jackson Chang, the Director of Macao Health Bureau, Dr. Lei Chin Ion, and the Director of Macau Economic Service and cumulatively Chairman of the Board of Directors of Macau Investimento e Desenvolvimento, S.A., Mr. Sou Tim Peng also witnessed the signing ceremony of the cooperation MOU with CICEP's strategic partner IMT and Centre and Câmara de Intercâmbio Cultural Brasil China, as well as the cooperation MOU with CICEP's corporate partner PuraPharm Co., Ltd. (from Hong Kong).

The Forum kicked-off with the keynote speech delivered by Director-General Wang Xiaoping on the topic “Trade in Services of Traditional Chinese Medicine – Opportunities and Challenges in View of the New Situation”. 10 experts in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) also delivered their interesting speeches on a variety of subjects, which included the development of the TCM industry, demands in the Portuguese-speaking markets and the training of human resources. In turn, participating enterprises were concerned about the demands of TCM in the international market, registration barriers and other issues, and held detailed discussions on these matters with the experts. The Forum ended in a lively discussion atmosphere.

After the Forum, participating experts and representatives of enterprises will on July 1 visit the Industrial Park, to conduct an in-depth analysis on the construction progress, admission policy and co-operation perspectives with the Industrial Park.

Traditional Medicine International Co-operation Forum 2015 represents an innovative measure of the Industrial Park in the promotion of the internationalization of TCM, aiming to develop the advantages of the exchange and business platform of the health industry, having as entry point the Portuguese-speaking Countries, provide direct networking and face to face opportunities for government agencies, research and academic institutions and enterprises associated with TCM as well as to create opportunities for pharmaceutical enterprises from Mainland China and Macao to understand the demand in the Portuguese-speaking Countries and other related markets. At the same time, it aims to build an international exchange and cooperation platform, having as starting point the Portuguese-speaking Countries and gradually extending to ASEAN and EU member countries and regions, through various forms, namely, international registration of TCM and import and export trade in services of TCM, and promoting the mutual penetration and development of traditional medicine, while assuming a relevant role in the pushing forward the “One Belt, One Road” national strategy in the TCM sector of our country.
