Organized by the Traditional Chinese Medicine Science and Technology Industrial Park of Cooperation between Guangdong and Macao (hereinafter, “GMTCM Park”) in collaboration with the Traditional Chinese Medicine Doctor Association of Thailand, the Awarding Ceremony of the “Thailand-Macao Academic Exchanges on TCM and Free Consultation” was held on May 10, 2018 on the fringe of the “2018 Traditional Medicine International Development Forum (Thailand)”. On May 11, the “Academic Exchanges on TCM and Free Consultation between Thailand and Macao” took place in Bangkok, Thailand, in the presence of 15 TCM practitioners coming from Thailand, Mainland China and Macao who have provided clinical services to the Thai community and conducted exchanges of ideas and experiences in MTC clinical techniques.

The officiating guests present at the Academic Exchange comprised of the Director of the MSAR Government Health Bureau, Lei Chin Ion, the President of Thai-Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Chen Zhenzhi, the Honorary President of Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Lyu Yubo, the Chairman of Traditional Chinese Medicine Doctor Association of Thailand, Lin Danqian, among others, having the session taken place on the 9th Floor of the Thai-Chinese Chamber of Commerce premises. Other invited guests consisted of approximately 15 professionals, including renowned TCM specialists from the Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Chief TCM practitioners from Thailand, and outstanding youth TCM practitioners from Macao to jointly provide clinical services, including pulse diagnosis, massage, acupuncture and moxibustion, cupping in addition to recommendations on different treatments in TCM health care to the Thai community, having attracted nearly 200 attendees.

In his opening remarks, Lei Chin Ion, stated that in the past years, the MSAR Government has been promoting progressively the development of the TCM, and owing to the fact that the present Exchange on clinical techniques represents a joint initiative from various sources of associative entities that aim to provide clinical services, by means of techniques and experience sharing towards fostering a sustainable development of the Chinese Medicine, all in all, it reflects the substantial importance given to the cooperation in the field of health, by the acceding countries of the Central Government’s “Belt and Road” Initiative. In line with this, the speaker has expectations that in the future more of such initiatives would be undertaken with a view to approximating the Asian communities and jointly promoting the Chinese Medicine internationalization in order to boost the clinical practices of Chinese Medicine throughout the world.
Lin Danqian considered that the present Exchange on clinical techniques in TCM was highly significant. For his part, Lyu Yubo, stated that through this initiative, it is both envisaged the fostering of the development of the Chinese Medicine and the international cooperation in Chinese Medicine. Moreover, with this advantageous opportunity for interaction, the promotion of Chinese Medicine would be highly facilitated, in terms of people’s overall health care, thereby, reflecting the “spirit of care and inclusiveness” of the Chinese Medicine itself. Looking ahead, he wishes for the continued coordination of such initiatives, on a yearly basis, through concerted efforts towards the development of the Traditional Chinese Medicine. Chen Zhenzhi, in turn, extended his personal appreciation to the guest practitioners that were invited to the session, and remains hopeful that the contacts established along the exchanges would pave the way to a continued and longstanding provision of health care services for the community.

The organizing entity has put high expectations over this Academic Exchange initiative, trusting that through the delivery of a series of clinical practices in TCM, would contribute to providing a better knowledge and experience sharing with the Thai community in that field, in a sense that it would enhance a higher awareness, both in terms of the diverse forms of treatment in Chinese Medicine health care and the Chinese Medicine culture itself and, in parallel, would provide for a platform to boost academic exchanges for the improvement of TCM clinical techniques of the parties concerned.
It is worth mentioning that this initiative aims to equip TCM youth practitioners with a platform through overseas practical training and learning of TCM clinical techniques to gradually enrich their experiences and improve their professional performance level towards better nurturing professional talents in TCM and thus, contributing to secure high standards of professionalism and competitiveness in this field.
