To respond to the national construction of the Belt and Road Initiative and to promote China’s international exchange and cooperation on traditional medicine culture and industry, the Traditional Chinese Medicine Science and Technology Industrial Park of Co-operation between Guangdong and Macao (hereafter “the GMTCM Park”) will host a series of events launching and promoting international projects with traditional medicine as the theme. The series of events will be held in countries such as Mozambique, Spain and Belgium from 6 to 13 July 2018, so as to capitalise on the GMTCM Park’s role as an “International Window for the TCM Industry and Culture in the context of the Belt and Road Initiative”.
On the occasion, the Adviser to the Office of the Secretary for Economy and Finance, and President Lu Hong of the Guangdong-Macao Traditional Chinese Medicine Technology Industrial Park Development Co., Ltd will lead the GMTCM Park team on their visit to several countries. Furthermore, several officials from the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine of the People’s Republic of China, the Permanent Secretariat of Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao), and the Delegação Económica e Comercial de Macau, em Lisboa will be invited to join the delegation, launching the series of international promotional events of the GMTCM Park.
During the stay in Mozambique, the GMTCM Park and the Mozambique Ministry of Health will further strengthen Sino-Mozambican cooperation on traditional medicine. Specifically, on 6 July, a plaque unveiling ceremony of the Preparatory Office for the “Traditional Chinese Medicine Centre of Mozambique” will be held in Maputo, Mozambique, to promote the preparation of the Centre. It thus forges a key platform in the new setting for the promotion and transmission of TCM culture, provision of TCM international training, and promotion of TCM product application, registration and trade. During the ceremony, the GMTCM Park and the Mozambique Ministry of Health will also hold a closing ceremony for the “Mozambique Training Course on Special Therapies of Traditional Chinese Medicine (Advanced)” and the “2018 International Training Course on Special Therapies of Traditional Chinese Medicine with Portuguese-Speaking Countries in Africa”. In addition, an opening ceremony for the “Mozambique Training Course on Acupuncture of Traditional Chinese Medicine (Elementary)” will also be conducted.
Afterwards, the GMTCM Park will travel to Barcelona, Spain, to collaborate with the European Foundation of Traditional Chinese Medicine in co-hosting the “2018 Roundtable on the Innovative Development and Trade Promotion of Traditional Medicine (Barcelona)”. The Roundtable will focus on the three themes of “Registration Barriers and Development Strategies for Traditional Medicine Products and Food Supplements”, “Import and Export Quality Control of Traditional Medicine Products” and “International Markets and Development Trends of Traditional Medicine”. Furthermore, representatives from TCM enterprises in Macao and the mainland will be invited to bring along their own products to the Roundtable, allowing them to exchange and to match with competent entities for evaluation and registration approval of medicinal products with European Union standards. The Roundtable will certainly lay a solid foundation for the “Public Service Platform for Overseas Registration of Traditional Chinese Medicine Products” of the GMTCM Park in enabling TCM products in Macao and the mainland to go global.
Subsequently, the GMTCM Park team will head to Brussels, Belgium, to continue the trip. They will pay a visit to relevant local government departments and institutions for TCM and medicine regulation and registration.
The GMTCM Park has always strived to expand cooperation continuously with Portuguese-speaking countries and international traditional medicine organisations and institutions. In addition, it is also committed to building a demonstration base geared towards Portuguese-speaking countries, and thereby extending its impact to countries and regions in the European Union, Africa and ASEAN. Particularly, the demonstration base is aimed at promoting international exchange and cooperation on aspects such as the international registration, import and export trade, education and training, and scientific TCM research.
