Objective
2019 marks the 20th anniversary of Macao’s return to China. In meeting the development trend of the industrialization and internationalization of Traditional Chinese Medicine while responding to industrial demand, the “2019 Traditional Medicine International Cooperation Forum (Macao China)”, co-hosted by the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region and the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine of the People’s Republic of China, will be held by GMTCM Park for the fifth time from 24 to 26 September 2019 in The Venetian Macao to promote the development of the international Traditional Medicine industry to a higher level and in a broader scope. The Forum will continue to provide opportunities for international exchange and cooperation, and a platform for government agencies, science and technology institutions, industrial associations and enterprises to discuss joint development. The Forum will take this opportunity to present an overview of the past achievements made by GMTCM Park as a carrier in promoting the development of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Macao and at the same time, identify the way forward. The Forum will also be part of the celebrations of the 20th anniversary of Macao’s return to China and demonstrate Macao’s phased achievements in cultivating emerging industries.
Theme
With the theme of “Sharing the Achievements of Traditional Medicine, Deepening International Exchange and Cooperation”, the Forum will invite government agencies, science & technology institutions, industrial associations, investment & financing agencies, enterprises and expert representatives related to Traditional Medicine and healthcare industries from mainland China, Macao, the European Union, ASEAN and Portuguese-speaking countries. Attending guests will discuss policy support, development opportunities, technology research and development, market expansion, and investment & financing, aiming to promote the inclusive development of biological medicine, in particular Traditional Chinese Medicine, in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, while facilitating and deepening international exchange, bilateral cooperation, resource expansion and development opportunities, thus building a favourable platform for international exchange, cooperation and trade services in the Traditional Medicine and health industries both at home and abroad. In addition, this Forum will present three sub-forums, comprising of a Business Matching Forum, Investment & Financing Forum and Scientific and Technological Achievements Sharing. Moreover, the Forum will also set up an area specially for healthcare exhibition and experience, focusing on displaying the achievements of demonstration projects of the healthcare industry and providing new opportunities for participants to experience a healthy way of life.
Review
The “Traditional Medicine International Cooperation Forum (Macao China)” has been successfully held for four years as a flagship activity in the field of Traditional Medicine organized annually by the Traditional Chinese Medicine Science and Technology Industrial Park of Co-operation between Guangdong and Macao (“GMTCM Park”). The Forum has served as an important bridge in promoting international exchange and development of Traditional Chinese Medicine (“TCM”) industry, and gradually formed its characteristics with the themes centred around Traditional Medicine policies, market, research & development and investment & financing.
In June 2015, the first “Traditional Medicine International Cooperation Forum (Macao China)” was successfully held in Macao, which was a new initiative for GMTCM Park to promote the internationalization of TCM, and push forward the cooperative relationship between China and Portuguese-speaking countries in Traditional Medicine. During the Forum, the Centre of International Cooperation and Exchange of GMTCM Park was officially inaugurated. The Centre aims to take Portuguese-speaking countries as entry points, through the cooperation model of education and trade in the field of Traditional Medicine, hoping to gradually develop into other countries and regions such as ASEAN, the EU and other countries. The Centre will provide support for domestic companies to go global and international companies to enter the Chinese market in areas such as international registration and import & export service trade of TCM, in order to deeply promote the integration and development of Traditional Medicine both at home and abroad.
In July 2016, the second “Traditional Medicine International Cooperation Forum (Macao China)” was held, with the theme of “Integration, Innovation and Promotion for better Healthcare” and along the topic of TCM international exchange and cooperation under the “Belt and Road Initiative”. During the Forum, government representatives, TCM masters, academicians of the Chinese Academy of Science and Chinese Academy of Engineering, members of the European Directorate for the Quality of Medicine, and experts on TCM international registration and other authoritative industry insiders conducted in-depth discussions on technologies and policies of TCM international registration, analysis of international markets, and international business strategies. In this Forum, GMTCM Park issued certificates for international experts of the Expert Advisory Committee, signed a Memorandums of Cooperation with relevant functional departments of Portuguese-speaking countries, and signed strategic cooperation agreements with relevant academic institutions, research & development institutions, industry associations and enterprises from the mainland China, further enhancing the influence of the “Traditional Medicine International Cooperation Forum (Macao China)” within the industry.
In September 2017, the third “Traditional Medicine International Cooperation Forum (Macao China)” was held under the theme of “Inheritance, Innovation and Internationalization”, attracting more than 600 professionals from Macao, Hong Kong, mainland China, the EU, ASEAN and Portuguese-speaking countries. The Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region Government, Chui Sai On, and other officiating guests jointly launched the opening ceremony of the Forum and the inauguration ceremony of the Public Service Platform of GMTCM Park. Wang Guoqiang, head of State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, awarded GMTCM Park the “TCM Products Overseas Registration Public Service Platform (Hengqin)”. Leong Vai Tac, the Secretary for Economy and Finance of the Macao SAR Government, presented the Letters of Appointment for Chief Advisors of the Expert Advisory Committee of GMTCM Park. The attending guests discussed policies, technologies and marketing strategies relating to Traditional Medicine, the healthcare industry and international cooperation. This Forum combined the “Belt and Road Initiative” and Macao’s positioning as “One Centre and One Platform”, fully utilizing the role of GMTCM Park as an international platform for the “Traditional Chinese Medicine Industry and Culture under the Belt and Road Initiative”, to promote international cooperation in the Traditional Medicine industry.
In September 2018, with the support of the Macao SAR Government and the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the fourth “Traditional Medicine International Cooperation Forum (Macao China)” was held with new connotations in the theme of “Development and Internationalization of the TCM Industry in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area”. Domestic and overseas TCM experts and scholars from mainland China, Hong Kong, Germany, Thailand and Dubai exchanged ideas on policy innovation, market integration and investment opportunities. During the Forum, Chui Sai On, Chief Executive of the Macao SAR Government, with other officiating guests and international youth TCM practitioners jointly launched the “International Youth TCM Practitioners Exchange Base”, serving as a learning and communication platform for young practitioners in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, in order to broaden their horizons and improve their professionalism. The Base also hired industrial experts, association representatives and company representatives, and formed a team of professional supervisors, providing young TCM practitioners with advanced industrial information, professional trainings, practical guidance and exchange activities to improve their professional qualification within the TCM industry.
From 24 to 26 September 2019, the fifth “Traditional Medicine International Cooperation Forum (Macao China)” will be held in The Venetian Macao. On this occasion, government officials, academic scholars, industry giants, industrial capitalists, entrepreneurial representatives and reputable media entities will get together, discussing on the theme of “Sharing the Success of Traditional Medicine and Deepening the International Cooperation and Exchange”.
