The “Business Matching Webinar for Traditional Chinese Medicine Products 2021 (Brazil)”, serving as a transpacific bridge to promote TCM products, was successfully held

On the evening of June 29, 2021, the “Business Matching Webinar for Traditional Chinese Medicine Products 2021 (Brazil)”, was successfully held by the Traditional Chinese Medicine Science and Technology Industrial Park of Co-operation between Guangdong and Macao (“GMTCM Park”). More than 70 online and offline participants, including representatives of governments, enterprises and distributors from Macao, Hong Kong, mainland China and Brazil, discussed issues such as regulations governing the registration of traditional Chinese medicine (“TCM”) products in Brazil. The webinar also featured online presentations of TCM products and business matching sessions, with a view to building a platform for trade in traditional medicine between China and Brazil.


Opening remarks by Ms. Lu Hong, President and CEO of GMTCM Park


The event was opened by Ms. Lu Hong, President and CEO of GMTCM Park. She remarked that GMTCM Park remains committed to the internationalization of TCM by adopting a model of “promoting medicine through practice”. In Portuguese-speaking countries, particularly Mozambique, GMTCM Park has carried out TCM international registration, trading and educational trainingsthat accelerated local residents’ acceptance and recognition of TCM, and reinforced cooperation with local governments and medical institutions. Previous events held over the past several years served as a bridge for exchange and cooperation between industry insiders and business representatives. For the first time, this webinar combined both online and offline activities targeting the Brazilian market. It is expected to make better use of the platform offered by GMTCM Park, eventually realizing a trading platform in traditional medicine between China and Brazil, and a win-win cooperation.


Remarks by Mr. Glaucio Veloso, Deputy Consul General of Brazil in Guangzhou


Mr. Glaucio Veloso, Deputy Consul General of Brazil in Guangzhou, remarked that in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, the comprehensive health industry and the TCM industry are becoming increasingly important. He expected that through this webinar, people could come to know more about the market access and channels of trade in TCM products in Brazil so that trade cooperation in the field of TCM between Brazil and China, including Macao, could be further strengthened.


Remarks by Mr. Lau Wai Meng, President of the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute


Mr. Lau Wai Meng, President of the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute, said the central government and that of the Macao Special Administrative Region attaches great importance to the development of TCM. He added that the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicines and GMTCM Park have provided strong support in the development of TCM in Macao, enabling Macao to promote its moderate economic diversification. Taking advantage of its role as the Commercial and Trade Co-operation Service Platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries, and its unique strengths in the Belt and Road network, Macao pledges to endorse more TCM companies in their expansion of the Brazilian market.


Remarks by Mr. Rafael Rodrigues Paulino, Consul of Brazil in Hong Kong


Mr. Rafael Rodrigues Paulino, Consul of Brazil in Hong Kong and Brazil’s Representative at the Permanent Secretariat of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao), noted that promoting cooperation between China and Brazil in TCM is especially important in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. He also expressed his expectation that more TCM products could be introduced into Brazil and that economic and trade cooperation between the two countries could be further enhanced.

During the event, Mr. Paulo Varanda, Representative of the Brazilian Federal Council of Pharmacy (CFF), and Ms. Suelen Andrade Navarro, Representative of the Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency (ANVISA), interpreted and shared their opinions on the “Market Potential of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Brazil and Promotional Methods” and “Market Supervision and Regulations on the Registration of TCM Products in the Brazilian Market – Based on RDC 21/2014”. Mr. Lei Sai Ian, Chief of Pharmacovigilance and Pharmacoeconomics, Department of Pharmaceutical Affairs, Health Bureau of Macao, exchanged with the ANVISA representative on the standards for testing heavy metal and microorganisms in TCM.



During the TCM products presentations and business matching sessions, a total of 87 high-quality TCM products manufactured by 15 companies from Macao, Hong Kong and mainland China were displayed at the exhibition area. This year’s webinar combined product introduction and presentation with business matching for the very first time. Products were simultaneously showcased through multiple cameras on the same screen, realizing barrier-free online and offline business matching and interaction. Participating companies promoted their products online and on-site respectively. Eight Brazilian distributors raised questions about products they were interested in and participating companies answered their questions. Precise business matching objectives were thus achieved.

The event was concluded by Ms. Jessy Sun, Director of the Center of International Cooperation and Exchange of GMTCM Park. She sincerely thanked the Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency (ANVISA), the Brazilian Federal Council of Pharmacy (CFF), the Consulate General of Brazil in Guangzhou, the Consulate General of Brazil in Hong Kong, the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM), the Health Bureau of Macao and the Brazilian Chamber in China for Commerce, Industry and Innovation (Bracham) for their strong support in this event. She also extended her gratitude to the 15 outstanding Chinese companies and eight Brazilian distributors for their participation in the business matching sessions, and for their online presentations and explanations of products of renowned Chinese pharmaceutical companies such as Jiuzhitang Co., Ltd., Zhangzhou Shuixian Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. and Zhejiang CONBA Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., as well as companies based in GMTCM Park including Macau-Union Pharmaceutical Limited. The 3.5-hour webinar garnered enthusiastic reactions and order inquiries were placed by Brazilian distributors. Bringing into full play its own advantages, GMTCM Park will continue to assist companies in one-on-one business negotiations in an effort to promote cooperation and introduce high-quality TCM products into Brazil for the benefit of the Brazilian population.


 


As a platform for international exchange and cooperation on traditional medicine, GMTCM Park will continue to take advantage of the role of Macao as a window to the world, make efforts to establish contacts with Portuguese-speaking countries and countries along the Belt and Road starting with Mozambique, provide foreign and domestic companies including those from Macao with a platform for commercial cooperation, business matching, product presentation and business negotiation, while facilitating international cooperation on TCM in order to accelerate the development of the traditional medicine industry.
